Adult Basic Education

Flexible Access Schedule
Our program offers a very flexible schedule. The schedule for September 2008 will be posted here shortly.

Intermediate 070 (Math, English, Science, Social Studies)
Tuition Free
(some additional costs)
This program is for full-time or part-time adult students who require a Grade 10 academic standing. Students may enter the program at any time from September through May, subject to seat availability. Subjects offered include applied mathematics, science, social studies and communicative English, (reading/writing/speaking). This program is individualized to meet your needs, so the skills you acquire are what you require. Sponsorship for this program may be available from the HRDC or the Ministry of Social Services. An Institutional Certificate will be issued on successful completion.

ABE Advanced 080 (Math, English, Science, One Option)
This level of ABE programming trains students on a full-time or part-time basis to an approximate Grade 11 Academic standing. Courses offered include math, English, general science and social studies. These courses meet the prerequisites for subsequent courses in the same subject area at the 090 level (Provincial ABE). The program is available on a continuous intake basis although some of the courses are offered on a fixed intake basis.

The campus now offers Chem 080, Biology 080 and 090 and Math 090.
An Institutional Certificate will be issued on successful completion of the four required courses.

General Education Development (GED Preparation)
This program is a Grade 12 equivalency Program. Students may enter at any time between September and May .

This program is designed to provide students with an opportunity to prepare for the GED examination. Subjects covered are writing, reading, social studies, mathematics and science. Successful completion of the exam results in a GED certificate from the Ministry of Education which may be recognized by employers as equivalent to Grade 12.

Examination dates are arranged well in advance. They are offered on a scheduled Friday evening and all day on the following Saturday for a total of 7 l/2 hours.

ABE (Fundamental)
The ABE Fundamental Level at COTR is designed to provide adult students with the reading, writing and math skills necessary for achieving personal, work and educational goals. Students are admitted on a continuous intake basis with the programming being individualized to meet student needs. Upon completion of the Math and Communications components of the program, a certificate will be issued. This certificate will allow the students to continue in a Grade 10 program.
