We are having a variety of events and activities to welcome new and returning students and staff to College of the Rockies for the 2018-19 academic year on Friday January 4th.

New students and staff from all programs offered at both Cranbrook campuses are encouraged to attend!

9:45 a.m. Student registration and prize entry

10:00 a.m. Welcome from the College of the Rockies- David Walls

10:05 a.m. College Resources for Student Success:
Planning to work while you study? Learn how to access assistance with resumes/cover letters and interview skills, and where to find our on/off campus job postings and volunteer opportunities. Wondering whether you have the skills to make the grade?  This session will also introduce you to our writing lab, math tutoring, academic advising and peer-tutoring services.

10:20 a.m. AccessCOTR:
Did you know we have an App for that?  Have your smartphone out for this session and learn how you can view your timetable, check your grades, register for classes, check important dates and much more through the Ellucian Go App.

10:35 a.m. Test/Exam Taking Strategies:
Exams are among the most important and most stressful aspect of college life. Exam stress is a completely common and normal experience. Gain some strategies to ace your next test.  This session will provide you with some techniques to use on test day and during the exam.

10:50 a.m. Study Skills:
Study smarter, not harder: Staying on top of your work is one of the keys to being a successful student.  In this session you will learn how to get the most out of your study sessions; how to set up a study group, strategies to avoid procrastination, memory tricks, and more.

11:05 Student Life:
Is dedicated to enhancing your entire experience by offering a wide variety of activities and events for students. Find out what the Student Life team has planned for the 2018/19 academic year. We have something for everyone!

11:20 a.m. Library:
This session will give you a fundamental introduction to the Library so that you can learn the basics right away.  You’ll learn our “Top 5 Tips" for using the Library, get an overview of library services, website and databases.

11:35 a.m. Moodle/Tech:
Welcome to the world of usernames, passwords and the virtual (online) classroom.  Your username and password give you access to more than just computers; come find out what resources and learning options are available to you. Also, find out how to access FREE Microsoft SOFTWARE!

11:50 a.m. Financial Aid:
Stressed about funding your education? Want to limit your debt?  Applying for scholarships and bursaries is worth your time and effort.  This session will provide tips and options to access FREE MONEY!

12:05 p.m. FREE lunch- Pizza and drinks will be provided

12:30 p.m. Prizes

1:00 p.m. Student Life Open House- Come down to the gym and check out the facility and get a tour.
