Activity Assistant

The Activity Assistant program is designed to provide post-graduate continuing education for individuals with previous health care education (Health Care Assistants, Resident Care Aides) and experience. The course is designed to provide participants with the concepts and practical skills to deliver activities to clients/residents experiencing cognitive and physical challenges.

Students are provided opportunities to develop knowledge, skills and necessary values necessary to plan and implement, with supervision, individual and group activities for older adults in continuing, long term care and rehabilitation settings.

This on-line program is delivered part time over a 11 month period, allowing most students to continuing working while taking the program.

  • Tuition for the program is $1499.00 (Canadian funds - non refundable)
  • $899 due one month prior to intake date
  • $600 due prior to start of second module - AAP 103 (Approximately 5 months after intake date)

Instructor Profile

Your Instructor: Simon Lazarchuk

Simon has a Degree in Recreation in the combined Recreation Integration studies program at Langara/UBC. He was a Recreation Therapist at St Paul’s Hospital for many years before moving to Creston where he was the Director of Recreation at Swan Valley Lodge for 22 years until his retirement. 

Simon has been very active developing Adult Day Programs as well as specific programs for dementia units. He brings many years of knowledge and experience to this field, as well as a wonderful ability and desire to share that with others.
