Birth Doula Studies Instructor
Carmen Schultz, CD, DT, CBE, RCA
Your instructor Carmen Schultz has been a certified doula since 2000. She has worked in the perinatal field supporting women for 20 years. She has furthered her knowledge through ongoing perinatal education and childbirth education studies.
Carmen’s passion for birth began almost two decades ago when she attended her first birth as a support person at the age of 18. In 1995, after the birth of her first child, Carmen underwent intensive training and began supporting birthing women through a local community outreach program. She continued offering this support well after the birth of her second child in 1998. Years later, Carmen realized there was a name for this profession: doula.
Carmen was a pioneer and one of the first doulas in her community. Since she first became a certified birth doula in 2000, she has supported countless women through their birth journeys, both at home and in the hospital. She participates in ongoing education in breastfeeding and childbirth and works with local outreach groups to promote better births. She also co-led a postpartum adjustment group, managed a Crisis Pregnancy Centre, and has become a private, in-home prenatal instructor.
Carmen wanted to take and share the best attributes from all her training and wanted it to be accessible to busy women, as well as women in remote areas who prefer to learn online. This led to the creation of the Birth Doula Studies Online via College of the Rockies. It’s a supportive, interactive online program that allows women to succeed in becoming doulas. It allows Carmen to share her passion and knowledge and help students achieve their goals of becoming birth doulas.
