How does this fundraising help?

The annual Literacy Charity Golf Tournament is organized in partnership with the Invermere Public Library and Radium Resort. It has raised more than $60,000 for literacy programs in seven years.

This years event takes place June 4th at Radium Resort.

Invermere Public Library:

Libraries have long been wonderful partners for literacy programs, since their business is the promotion of books and reading. The money raised through the Literacy Charity Golf Tournament is shared equally between the Invermere Public Library and the literacy programs in the Columbia Valley. Golf tournament funding is an important part of the library’s budget, considerably increasing its ability to purchase books.

Adult Literacy Program:

The adult literacy program in the Columbia Valley is run by the College of the Rockies. Funding from the golf tournament supports the purchase of resources for that program, including computers and software. It also reduces the barriers to participation in the program for some students by supplying some direct funding to students who have extra expenses as a result of coming to school. These are usually related to transportation.

Family Literacy Program:

In the last two years, golf tournament funds have been used to support family literacy programs throughout the Columbia Valley. Family Literacy Programs have developed as a result of the work of the Windermere Valley Family Literacy Advisory Group. These programs are for parents and their children and are designed to assist parents in developing the literacy and pre-literacy skills of their children.

Literacy Charity Golf Tournament

The Literacy Charity Golf Tournament is an important part of the funding needed for programs that encourage and support the basic skills development of the citizens of the Columbia Valley.
