Network Support Technician
This program is being updated and will be offered in the 2010/11 academic year.
This program offers the training necessary to earn industry certifications such as; Comp TIA Security+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), and several exciting new Microsoft Certifications. These new certifications are replacing the Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA) that was previously offered in the NST program. The new Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP) focuses on the latest Microsoft Client and Network Operating Systems.
Certification exams can be written at the Cranbrook campus testing centre. Additional training in business writing and web programming complement this program.
-
NST candidates can develop skills for employment in the constantly evolving network support field. Courses cover desktop and server operating systems from multiple vendors.
-
The majority of the course load focuses on the Microsoft Windows Client and Network (2008) operating system. Program graduates should be eligible to write Microsoft exams for certification as a Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP), as well as COMP TIA Security+ and Cisco CCNA certification exams at the Cranbrook campus testing centre.
-
In order to meet requirements for work placement, students may have to travel outside the East Kootenay region.
-
Program completion includes two academic courses (included in the tuition, see Program Structure) and the successful completion of a two-month work placement.
