College of the Rockies offering Office Administration program in Fernie
A one-time investment by the Ministry of Advanced Education, to enable College of the Rockies to provide the skills training needed to fill industry jobs in the East Kootenay, has allowed the Fernie Campus to offer the popular Office Administration program for the first time in 13 years.

Running from September 17, 2012 to March 27, 2013, Office Administration instruction will be available face-to-face from Monday to Thursday with a two-week break at Christmas. This schedule is intended to take into consideration the needs of parents of school-aged children.
Fernie Campus Manager Leah Bradish noted, “We’re going to make the schedule as flexible as possible for students with the instructor support they need to be successful.”
With high demand from employers in the Elk Valley for Administrative Assistants, the timing of this opportunity is ideal. “Local employers are pleased the Fernie Campus is providing this training to help meet their hiring needs,” said Bradish.
Former student, Lisa Plummer, added, “Since graduating from the online version of the program in 2011, I have been working for Snow Valley Strata Management in accounts receivable and also for School District 5 as a casual clerical. I am excited that COTR – Fernie campus will be offering the Office Administration program face-to-face in September. I wish that had been an option for me.”
The Fernie program will cover the 10 courses required to complete the core Office Administration certificate. Students wishing to continue on to complete any of the three specialty certificates (Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeping or Legal Administrative Assistant) will be better prepared to do so online after completing the initial program.
There are only 24 seats available and Bradish expects them to fill quickly so she encourages people to apply early. For more information or to register contact the Fernie Campus at 250-423-4691 or email: fernie@cotr.bc.ca
