College of the Rockies A great start for a Tourism Career
~Having grown up in Cranbrook, College of the Rockies was an easy choice for Heather Stuart. ~
"It was local, had the program I wanted to take, and the program was very well designed and had a good reputation". From 2007-2009, Heather completed diplomas in Tourism Management and Recreation Management, as well as a certificate in Event Planning.
While in the program Heather completed a practicum at the Blue Lake Forest Education Society, where she is now employed full-time. She is responsible for organizing a variety of activities including recreation programs, leadership skill training, and team-building programs. Heather also leads winter outdoor programs that teaches skills such as winter camping, avalanche certification, and sleeping in quinzhees -- a shelter made by hollowing out a pile of settled snow.
"I always wanted to work with youth in an outdoor setting such as camp or tripping program and taking the recreation and tourism program seemed the best way to get that," Heather said.
