Fulfilling a dream
~Darla Rouleau had always loved working with children and had been a parent volunteer at both her son’s and her niece’s schools.~
When she became a single mom after 16 years of marriage, Darla needed to return to the workforce so she decided to build on her strengths and become an Education Assistant.
Darla chose to enroll in the College of the Rockies Education Assistant program because the location and the schedule, with a combination of face-to-face and online courses, worked with her busy life. Though sometimes overwhelmed with the responsibilities of a young child, employment as a noon-hour supervisor and school work, Darla not only persevered, she excelled – even making the Dean’s list.
Since graduating from the Education Assistant program in May 2008, Darla has been employed as an Education Assistant with School District #5 doing what she loves best – encouraging, supporting and believing in the kids she works with.
“Because of the support I received from College of the Rockies and the teachers I had, I was able to accomplish something I can be proud of”, says Darla. “I love what I do, the people I work with and the kids I support more than I could have hoped to.”
