Whether you have a passion for supporting families or wish to use this is as a stepping stone to explore other perinatal professions, College of the Rockies' Birth Doula Certificate program is the perfect choice.
The Birth Doula Studies Online Program consists of three online modules as well as practicum assignments, all of which are taken to complete the (non-accredited) Continuing Education Birth Doula Studies Certificate.
The Birth Doula Studies Program, including practicum, is approximately 108 hours and the online access is available almost 24 hours a day/7 days a week. The time commitment is a minimum of 5 hours per week of online course work, as well as reading, assignments, etc, and the instructor will advise you in advance of assignment due dates.
- Minimum Age Requirement: 18 years old at the time when Practicum begins.
- Adequate English communication skills and ability to read and write at an appropriate level
- Experience with, and access to, computers, word processing, and internet
- A genuine desire to support childbearing families
- Comfortable discussing all aspects of childbirth

Module 3 – The Baby, the Business and You
In addition to online Modules 1, 2 and 3, the following practical needs to be completed in order to earn the Birth Doula Studies Continuing Education Certificate:
Volunteer Experience - A minimum of 20 hours of volunteer experience is required within 6 months of program start date. Resources and instructions will be posted online in your doula course.
Book Reports 1 & 2 - Read and report on 2 books from the required reading list within 6 months of program start date. Resources and instructions will be posted online in the course.
Birth Attendance - Attend and report on 2 births within 1 year of program start date. Resources and instructions will be posted online in the course.
Many of our programs and courses will allow you to transfer to other colleges and universities in Canada. You can also apply to get transfer credits from past courses that will go towards completing your program here at College of the Rockies.
