Description / duties:
REQUIRED ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
1. A Community Support Worker certificate or diploma from a recognized institution, including introduction to Autism Course (30 hours) from the Provincial Outreach Program for Autism and Related Disorders (POPARD), or equivalent.
2. Specialized training in ABA (including 100 supervised hours in an ABA-Lovass program with a specific child). Documented experience in ABA Lovaas-style data collection methodology is also required.
3. CPI training (Crisis Prevention Intervention) is a requirement of this position.
4. Learning Services has 1 Education Assistant position from LIF funds for the 2017/18 school year. The position will be for support/behaviour and will work under the direction of the Learning Services Department with day to day direction from the Learning Team.
5. This position will assist in the implementation of instructional programs for students by monitoring, observing, recording and reporting on behavioural, learning and personal patterns and will assist in implementing strategies. This position may also assist in providing school-based professional development sessions to staff with students experiencing behavioural difficulties.
6. Ability to follow directions and work as a member of the educational team.
7. Ability to work effectively with student(s).
8. A minimum of (6) six months successful experience working in a related field.
9. Training and/or experience in using technology to support student(s) learning.
10. Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
11. Specialized curricular knowledge may be required, e.g. high-school level math and/or science, working knowledge of shops and/or fluency in a second language.
12. Please note that there is no specific location attached to this district position as the successful applicant will be working between different locations.

Provides personal assistance to special needs student in the areas of feeding, toileting, cleanliness, dressing, grooming, lifting, positioning, mobility and other personal needs as required.
