Automotive Service Technician (AST): Pre-Apprentice
This 30 week Foundation program helps prepare graduates for entry-level employment in the automotive industry.The program covers the theory components of the first year Apprenticeship program and offers practical hands-on experience in a realistic shop atmosphere.
Entrance Requirement Options
Students are interviewed by a program instructor and admitted by Option 1 or 2.
Option 1: secondary school graduation or BC Adult Graduation Diploma or GED
Option 2: Mature student status (age 19 prior to the start of classes) and completion of a College assessment to acceptable level.
IMPORTANT: This program is open to ACE-IT Students. Secondary School Students interested in this program should contact counselling office at their local Secondary School.

- Safe Work Practices
- Wheels, Hubs, Tires and Bearings
- Frames, Suspension Systems
- Manual and Power Steering
- Brake System
- Basic Electrical and Batteries
- Auxiliary Electrical
- Welding
- Diagnostic and routine Maintenance and Service Procedures
Students who successfully complete the AST Pre-Apprenticeship program will receive Technical Training Credit for Year 1 of the Automotive Service Technician Apprenticeship from the Industry Training Authority (ITA).
Supplies for AST Foundation Program:
- $300 books and supplies*
- Occupational First Aid Level 1
*Reference material available from the College Bookstore. Costs listed above are approximate and may change without notice.
Students must provide their own:
- steel-toed leather work boots
- safety glasses
- coveralls
- gloves
- reference manuals
- digital multimeter (10M impedence)
- pens, pencils, three-ring binder
